An important part of St. Emery’s mission in the community is to reach out to those in need.  The Church undertakes several projects of charitable works throughout the year.  The Church also reaches out to the community to support fund drives to meet the needs of St. Emery’s Parish as well as those of the Diocese of Bridgeport.

We encourage your participation and generous donations for these worthy causes.

Annual Catholic Appeal “Joy in Christ, Our Gift to Share” – 2018

Joy in Christ, Our Gift to Share

The Diocese of Bridgeport 2018 Annual Appeal, Joy in Christ, Our Gift to Share, is underway.  The Annual Appeal helps the working poor, elderly and homeless.  It sustains our priests both active and those retired and prepares men for the diaconate.  It also provides Catholic education through scholarships and much more.

Parishioners will be receiving a mailing that includes a letter from Bishop Caggiano, a brochure, a personalized card with suggested gift plans and a reply envelope. These items are posted here.

Lenten Food Drive Flyer

St. Emery’s Faith Formation staff sponsored the annual Lenten Food Drive which started on February 18.  All food items were donated to our sister Churches or other worthy charitable organizations prior to Easter.

A list of food items were suggested as noted in the Flyer.

Every year St. Emery’s parishioners have successfully supported this kind food drive to support those in need in our community.

Loaves and Fishes

This is a wonderful annual and wide Charity Charity Drive sponsored by the Catholic Charities of Fairfield County during Lent.

Among the recipients include Soup Kitchens and Food Pantries.   They serve the Thomas Merlon Center in Bridgeport, the Morning Glory Breakfast Program in Danbury, the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality in Danbury, the New Covenant Center in Stamford and the Nutrition Programs in Southern Fairfield.

Message from Pastor Father Milan

St. Emery’s important 2017 annual funding drive that was launched September 1, 2017 is now concluded.  All parishioner’s received mailings with donation pledge cards included and donations were also be made using the Online Giving link on this website.

As Father Milan pointed out in his message (left), the Annual Collection is an integral and imperative part of the financial structure of Saint Emery. Among the financial demands in 2017 were two outstanding loans dealing with the church heating system and parish school roof repairs.

The annual fund drive achieved $23,000 this year after expenses.

We deeply appreciate your generous donations.

ANNUAL CHARITY PROJECTS AND FUND DRIVES

A number of charitable activities occur throughout the year at St. Emery’s during Lent and Easter, Summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas and special drives to collect school supplies for local Catholic schools.

Annual fund drives include the Diocese of Bridgeport’s ‘Beacon of Hope’ fund drive and St. Emery’s Parish Stewardship fund raiser, which supports the needs of the parish.

LENTEN AND EASTER SEASON

Lenten Food Drive

St. Emery’s sponsors a food drive during the season of Lent.  All food items are donated to our sister churches or other worthy charitable organizations prior to Easter.

Loaves and Fishes
Coordinator:  Jeanne Bisson

The annual Lenten campaign to feed the needy. The Diocesan Loaves and Fishes drive begins on Ash Wednesday and is concluded at the end of Lent. Contributions are made using Loaves and Fishes envelopes. Donations are payable to: Catholic Charities. All donations go to local Bridgeport Diocese charities.

Easter Visitations for the Homebound

Parishioners of St. Emery’s sponsor Easter visitations for the homebound. Volunteers are provided with Easter plants and spend time visiting St. Emery parishioners who live either in private homes or nursing homes. Visits take place prior to Easter. It is a wonderful offering of personal time by volunteers.

SUMMER SEASON

Summer Food/Toiletry Drive

St. Emery’s annualSummer Food/Toiletry Drive serves the St. Stephen’s Food Pantry, the recent Thomas Merton Marion House and the Operation Hope Food Pantry.

‘Dress-for-Success’ Clothing Drive
Coordinators:  Theresa Bell

Dress-for-Success is a wonderful drive that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.  Dress-for-Success Mid-Fairfield County and The Community Closet collects donations of gently used clothing and household essentials for needy people striving for self-sufficiency.

St. Emery sponsors a food drive during the season of Lent.  All food items are donated to Operation Hope in Bridgeport, a worthy charitable organization.

CHRISTMAS SEASON

Christmas Giving Tree

An annual sponsored St. Emery Christmas event where the proceeds go to the Daughters of Divine Charity, St. Vincent DePaul and to St. Vincent’s Hospital Special needs for Children.

Christmas Visitations for the Homebound

Clothing Drive

An annual clothing drive sponsored by St. Emery’s.  Coats, gloves, and shawls are collected to help support families throughout the low income areas of Fairfield and Bridgeport.

Christmas Cookie Walk and Fair

St. Emery sponsors a Christmas Cookie Walk and Fair prior to Christmas where volunteer bakers participate by donating a wide variety of Christmas cookies. Cookies are then purchased through donations and the proceeds go to supporting St. Emery’s parish needs.

As Father Milan pointed out in his message (left), the Annual Collection is an integral and imperative part of the financial structure of Saint Emery.  It is necessary to provide a needed addition to the weekly offertory to cover expenses for property and building maintenance, insurance premiums and financial loans.

The parish net income from the fund this year was $23,000.

ST. EMERY SUPPORT TO THE DIOCESE OF BRIDGEPORT

Annual Catholic Appeal “Building Communities of Faith” – 2017 Summary

The Diocese of Bridgeport launched its 2017 annual appeal, Building Communities of Faith, to assist the working poor, elderly and homeless through Catholic Charities. The Catholic Charities enable the existence of nationally-recognized Catholic schools, support ongoing religious education, nurture vocations, and care for retired priests.

  • The Bishop’s Annual Appeal was completed and thanks to all its generous donors, St. Emery’s Parish exceeded its diocesan financial goals for 2017.
  • The parish contributed $23,853 in 2017 exceeding its goal by 113.59%.

This statue of Christ is located in the rear of the Church.  This is one of the sculpture pieces created for the Church in 1932 and refurbished in 2000.

Jesus

It shows Jesus offering a sign of peace.

Below is the statue of Saint Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary, holding the child Virgin Mary.  This statue is also located in the rear of the Church.  The Saint Anne statue is also one of the art pieces from 1932 which was refurbished in 2000.

Stained Glass Rose Window.  Outside front of Church.

This striking stained glass window is also located in the rear of the Church above the Choir loft. It was installed in 1932 when the Church was built. It can be seen from the outside front of the Church above the main entrance doors.

The sections of the window show the symbols for each of the 12 Apostles. From top-center is Saint Peter carrying two keys. Going clock-wise from St. Peter, John, Andrew, Philip, James, Simon, Matthew, Bartholomew, James the Less, Judas, Jude, and Thomas.
